A Universal Human Creed
by Ali Salaam - Excerpt from Becoming Human; Being Human

~ We recognize that our capacity for intelligent behavior is necessary and an
integral part of the One Truth, this Universe. Individually and thereby
collectively we shall endeavor to balance our lives and ambitions so that they
 express no harm
~ As sentient beings whose actions profoundly affect and effect the metaphysical and physical existence surrounding us, we shall be respectful and compassionate to all life.
~ We know that each and every human deserves a life of dignity and hope. Therefore intelligently we shall strive to establish social order based on sustainable ways of life that are not predicated on privilege, but rather the inalienable right of all to peace and justice.
~ The human existence of body, mind and soul (the intangible) is self-evident to each of us. Our need to express ourselves through our talents and abilities is inherent to the meaning of life.
~ Our need to do this interdependently is paramount. Doing so challenges us to 'heart-thought', a balance of compassion and reason.
~ The only entitlement for everyone is a life with dignity; that is beyond basic needs. That individual and social communication through language, culture, art and entertainment should never demean or hold contemptuous commentary and or actions upon one another.
~ Our quest to understand life through science, aesthetic and religious feelings is unique to our humanity. Differences in relating to the Universe and each other in this manner are not a legitimate basis for conflict.
~ At all times a dialogue for dignity, embracing core values of being human and measuring of our actions against these values, is an integral step in the realization and actualization of a just society. fi amani lah, Ali-Salaam
