The Struggle for Life on Earth to Flourish

 July 17,2001 by Michael Tivana

From a long-range viewpoint, the anti-Viet Nam war protest was the spark that congealed a rebellion that has spread far beyond the issue of war in Viet Nam. Viet Name was the catalyst, the focal point where all calls for justice and liberty could come together. Power to the people was the battle cry and was shouted by women, minorities, peace lovers, and environmentalists. Now in 2001 the movement for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness has spread to unionists, trade organizations, politicians, and beyond. Where does the movement go from here?

The anti-globalization movement is now the new anti-war protest. To be anti-global is to be anti-New World Order. Once upon a time a man named Hitler touted the World Order and tried in vain to get everyone behind his ultra-capitalist takeover of the world. The Bush patriarch Prescott Bush was one of Hitler's backers and was convicted by the US of trading with the enemy in 1942. Then in 1991, a man named George Bush activated a war in the mid-east and called for the New World Order. Now in 2001 Toni Blair has called a New World Order. In Europe they are calling the new coalition against terrorism the New World Order. But after all the world is aligned under the same market economy system, controlled by the same multi-national corporations and all is in complete totalitarian order, will there be room for people wanting to live any other way, in any other ecomonomic system? Will there be freedom to pursue a life outside the empire?

The new anti-global movement is a call for people to protect diversity in our world. The people in the movement show strength in a united diversity. Not only is the movement uniting people of all dissent against the NWO (from unions to peace activists to human rights groups)it is uniting people beyond political borders; it is uniting people around the world. This international movement against the unconscious corporate rulers of our world will hopefully be the last fight the people will have against their governors. To assure that the fight is won for the people and not for profit's bottom line, the people must be infused with more than hope, trust, and faith, they need leaders that provide education, fortitude, and courage. It is not enough to know what we are fighting against we must know what we are fighting for. "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

The words of Daniel Berrigan, a Jesuit Priest, said this about the anti-Viet Nam movement;

"We say killing is disorder, life and gentleness and community and unselfishness is the only order we recognize. For the sake of that order, we risk our liberty, our good name. The time is past when good men can remain silent, when obedience can segregate men from public risk, when the poor can die without defense."

These words ring even truer today and are even more potent as the world grows closer day by day. Those that know what is going on, those that have the ability to do something about it have a moral obligation to act. To know and to do nothing is as great a crime than to be ignorant of the actions of your country that continues to spread evil across the planet.

This is a call to action among the citizens of this planet. A call to protest the destruction of our liberties, our livelihoods, and our enviroment. The movement of the people that has always existed, did not get this far without a struggle and many victories. We have inherited much from the heros of the past, we honor their pain and suffering by continuing to advance the human condition with better working conditions, more freedom with fair minded courts, an honest economic system powered by sustainable fuels not fossil fuels, an environment that supports all life not just human consumption. This we want for all people and all life on the planet.

Om we takwae ahse, to all my relations - walk in beauty.
