Haiti, a Failed State or a US Coup de'tat?

After three years of Bush and French sanctions the country is in dire poverty, ripe for a revolution. Then a few hundred CIA sponsored rebels come from the mountains of the Dominican Republic and begin ransacking a peaceful country - pillaging villages and killing the local police

a flaming car in Port-au-Prince as chaos broadens

The people want Aristide to stay 5 more years

long live Aristide - Aristide won the election by 92% - the 8% moneyed class claimed fraud and used it as an excuse to place sanctions on Haiti (sore losers)

anti-government demonstrations claim genocide - propaganda for the US mainstream press?

US Marines arrive

and take over the presidential Palace

Aristide is taken out, (Aristide claims he was kidnapped) the coup is complete - in his place are new leaders - Guy Phillippe, a convicted murderer from the past is one of them

the people of the world are claiming Aristide was kidnapped

the pro Aristide majority take to the streets

the new Haitian police fire upon the people

people lose their lives

the US Marines patrol the streets -- to keep the peace or to control the people?

the US Marines go into the poor Bel-Air neighborhood and kill

the bad guys are on the loose and in the streets

Gerard Latortue comes out of exile and takes over the reigns of power - this illegitimate ruler hopes to unite the Haitian people and end poverty. He has been gone since 1988 living in the US.

Former Haitian Dictator 'Baby Doc' Jean-Claude Duvalier says he would like to return to Haiti. One of the most vicious of the US backed dictators in history.

more people die, some in random drive by shootings

others die while demonstrating for their freedom

All this happens under the watchful eye of the US mercenay goons. This is some of the $195 billion a year the US spends on military contractors. Your US tax dollars at work in Haiti.

  • A US coup provides cheap labor (Aristide dared to fight for a minumum wage)
  • WalMart brings back their sweat shop
  • US consumers shop at WalMart and get to buy cheap clothes
  • the Haitian workers can't even feed their families

some are rounded up and hauled away - this man was suspected of belonging to former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide armed militants called chimeres - he looks more like a ganja smoker to me. Why would a peace loving priest (Aristide) that disbanded the army have gangs of thugs going around killing people?

Powell denies any US coup or the Aristide kidnapping

the legal team for Aristide in Paris as he files suit against the US for kidnapping him

as the Haitians struggle to survive

    they deserve their freedom

the sun sets on another victory for the empire I mean the consumer --- Haiti is only a few months and a few hundred deaths away from being secure enough for the WalMart and Disney sweat shops to return - Disney profited $1.2 billion from Haitian cheap labor in 1996 alone. In the garment industry, in Haiti, the average wage was .05 cents an hour in 1996, compared to $1.08 in Mexico or $1.80 in Jamaica. Cheap labor is the reason why Haiti is so valuable. Note: it costs over $5 to feed one meal to a family of four, you do the math.
