Here is a comprehensive report on Haiti - an exclusive interview of Aristide with Amy Goodman upon his return to Jamaica, videos, audio clips, articles etc. with Noam Chomsky, Aristide, Venezuela, Jamaica.

  • Haiti-Democracy Now!

Multiple sources that spoke with Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide told Democracy Now! that Aristide says he was "kidnapped" and taken by force to the Central African Republic. Congressmember Maxine Waters said she received a call from Aristide at 9am EST. "He's surrounded by military. It's like he is in jail, he said. Aristide says he was kidnapped!"

Is Haiti a typical US sponsored coup? | Stan Goff is an excellent writer and gives a clear understanding of Haiti in this article. Haiti is a good primer on how the U.S. conquers countries.

One more country taken over in the name of saving it from being a failed state. As the long list of failed states shortens, the question remains, can Bush be stopped from turning the world into a giant Free Market Economy? Perhaps the Bush administration can be stopped if they are caught in a lie - and another lie and another. The simple question to ask on the Haitian issue is who is lying? Aristide the kidnapped victim or Powell the kidnapper. Common sense says that the victim is telling the truth and the criminal would be in denial of his crime. Why would Aristide say he was kidnapped if he wasn't?

Once again I see the Bushites caught in a big lie. Now where is justice or is this behavior just another mockery of justice akin to the kind we see in Israel / Palestine where assassinations are lauded as victories rather than decisions by a court of law. As justice is ignored and thrown out the window our civilization crumbles.

Why is Haiti important? Haiti is becoming a rally point for countries in the region that are adverse to the Bushites strongarming WTO policies. Now Jamaica and Venezuela are leading the charge by refusing to recognize the new Haitian puppet government. Will this response trigger more anti US actions in the world? Will there be more defaulting on IMF loans, boycotts, or more kidnappings of Americans in foreign lands. The question we must all ask is; is Bush making the US and our world safer?

Why Haiti? everyone asks. This is a perfect example of how a US coup de'tat works. Drive a country into chaos with sanctions and boycotts. Arm a few vicious mercenaries then cut them loose with all the US backing they need. Assassinate or kidnap the president then deny any complicity. Meanwhile a new government with policies that get the US and its corporate constituents (Walmart, Disney)what they want (cheap labor). Then those with a conscience have the duty to ask, do we Americans really need cheap labor for cheap prices so much that we prey upon leaders of foreign countries that are pushing for the minimum wage? Aristide was asking to raise the average hourly wage to $.58 cents an hour, which is enough for one meal for one family for a days labor. The workers do not even make that now.

The tale of Haiti is the classic tale between the workers (the people) and their employers, the mega corporations (the moneyed aristocracy). Any non equalitarian society has a relationship between the wealthy and the poor. Is mature capitalism creating a good or bad relationship between the rich and poor? Below are many articles that gie an understanding of Haiti and is a microcosm of what is going on in the world today.

"The Bush administration is preparing to declare Haiti a "failed state," so that Washington can step in to put the pieces back together as it chooses. Creating the conditions for such a declaration has been the U.S. objective since George Bush came to power. For three years Washington and the European Union have imposed an aid embargo on Haiti, squeezing the hemisphere's poorest nation until it screamed - and then squeezing harder." -- Stan Goff

This is an understanding of how the US bleeds countries with sanctions, then calls them failed states, then we give them aid which amounts to the implementation of US control over the people of said country.

In short this is the formula for colonization in the modern era. Along with this understanding one can read the true meaning of the manipulated news.

The failed state logic is carried over to the failed people logic of the right wing. "The poor are less productive because they pay fewer taxes, the criminals must face the consequences of their actions except when they are doping up on illegal drugs and a famous right wing radio host, the indigent are swept off the streets in Operation Bumb Sweep because thay are a nuisance, and there can be no welfare because it makes people lazy except if it is corporate welfare.

The end result of the "failed state" belief is Americans have to take the blame for what we do to these faield states. Are we liberating or oppressing them? How do we determine if a state has failed or not? Do we know how a state has become a failed state? All we have is the word of the Bush Administration as to who are the failed states and why.

So to say Haiti is a failed state because their President has kept all the money for himself and now the people are impoverished and mad as hell is not reason enough to takeover the country with CIA sponsored rebels.

This is not the truth. The truth is Aristide is a priest and not likely to hoard money from the people and the real cause for the Haitians poverty is the fact that the Bush Administration has withheld all financial support for Haiti since gaining office in 2001. The Bushites caused the misery in Haiti not their Priest President.

The most overlooked thing about the German holocaust is the Jews were the last to be persecuted - it started with the indigent, the handicapped, and the criminals (union organizers, dissenters etc.), it started with the "failed state, failed people" attitude of the German people. This dangerous attitude is what allowed and condoned the death camps of Germany.

So when I hear the words "failed state" I cringe, take a deep breath and do my best to take action to stop my country from pursuing the path to ultimate injustice - the oppression of a people in the disguise of saving them.
