Troops Disperse Iraqis Rioting for Food
by Michael Tivana 1-11-04

Hundreds of Iraqis rioted for jobs and food as a second southern Shiite Muslim city was rocked by unrest; a barometer of rising frustration with the U.S. led-occupation in Iraq.

What are we doing - we being the United States.

What are we doing in Iraq? This on top of what we are doing to starve Afghanistan. This is deliberate transfer of tens of millions into bondage not liberation. What do we expect when we cut off food supplies, bulldoze farms and homes, have 75% unemployment, variable electricity for heat and business, making people so angry they turn into terrorists or in the words of Ronald Reagan, "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".

What do we expect? I don't feel any safer because people are starving and rioting for food in Iraq.

  • waves of protesters rushed British troops guarding the city hall before being pushed back
  • Ukrainian soldiers fired into the air Monday to disperse hundreds of Iraqis who rioted for jobs and food
  • demonstrators hurled bricks at the building and trashed a post office in the city of Kut

People are demonstrating in Kut, Basra, Fallujah, Samara, Amarah, Tikrit, Mosul, and the list goes on and on. Imposing our will (the Colonizing Coalition) upon the Iraqi people is NOT going to work. The myth that we have to stay in Iraqi to keep the peace will never happen when there is no electricity, no clean water, rationed food, constant foreign armies raiding the homes of the people. The war mongers ask, "Why all the whining? They are getting a WalMart and they now have Pepsi. Here is proof that we are winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, look they have Pepsi".

Lets just say we tried our worst, it didn't work, and we will have to fight terrorism another way beside war and conquering countries. Shall we begin by not pointing a gun at the head of the Iraqis, and then we can rebuild the ancient irrigation ditches we bombed in Afghanistan so they can grow food again. Let's do the little things that made our nation great and regain our honor once again. True generosity, real prosperity, promote life not food riots will liberate the people.

Please forgive my blustering pose, some days are just more outrageous than others and today I feel for my human brethren that are faced with the starvation of their families, they are people that need a voice; today I am a whisper of a voice in a turbulent roar of misled US intentions. The voice of humanity needs to speak up or forever give ups its peace.
