January 11, 2007, the morning after GW Bush told the world about his plan to increase the number of US troops in Iraq, Sec. of State Condelezza Rice sat oh so alone, in an overstuffed chair, with an over pompous attitude and took blow after blow from Democrat and Republican Senators who offered NO support for Bush's 'Surge' into Iraq. It was hopeful when Republican Senators who said they once supported the Bush policies in Iraq are now withdrawing their support.
It was even more hopeful that local talk show host Dave Ross was in the room at the time of the hearings and he felt this rebuke of the Bush policy in Iraq was a testimony of how other Bush administration policies will play out in the future of our new congress. Ross then recommended that Cheney step down followed by Bush. This speaks to the new attitude in our capital at this critical time in history, a new attitude of thinking the United States has been headed in a wrong direction the past 6 years and it is time to change course.
Will the new course be one of sanity (sign on to the Kyoto accord), peace (bring US troops home from the War on Terror), justice (trying all those involved for war crimes), and prosperity (eliminate the deficit by restructuring taxes) and will the new course come easy. When the country is back on its true destined path the US will be the leader of the world in sanity, peace, justice, and prosperity for all. For now, let us continue the work of fulfilling the dreams of the peace and justice movement.
