US Government Offers Free Cyber Alerts By TED BRIDIS, AP Technology Writer WASHINGTON - Aiming to increase Internet security, the government is now offering Americans free cyber alerts and computer advice from the Homeland Security Department. Anyone who signs up with the new National Cyber Alert System will receive e-mails about major virus outbreaks and other Internet attacks as they occur, along with detailed instructions to help computer users protect themselves. Introducing the National Cyber Alert System US-CERT also provides a mechanism that allows citizens, businesses, and other institutions to communicate directly with the United States government regarding cyber security information. Are you going to sign
up? Do you feel unprotected enough, maybe a little vulnerable and open to
attack?
The phone conversation would be, “Hello Homeland Security? Computer help department? Whats that? You want me to pledge allegiance to the flag? No I am not a communist, I just want to know if you can help me with my computer; it’s the video card. Yeah it keeps flickering evdrytime I have an image of Tom Ridge on the screen. Has this happened to anyone else? Do computers have allergies? If they have viruses can they get allergies?” “What’s that, use Celebrex? Celebrex for computers? Ok, I didn’t know that. Thank you, good-bye.” Now I don to mean to spread fear and paranoia – that is the last thing I want to do. This is just an update on the program to volunteer to let the government keep track of you for your own safety. The current US propaganda in Iraq has changed to, “We are here to protect you!” as the soldiers raid houses, shoot protestors, and wreak havoc upon the people. Richard Clarke is the Big Brother on the Internet, all in the guise of helping you. Do you feel safe? Meanwhile the heavens are turning red, is it a sign? Homeland Security will go to any length to protect us, even to Mars to consult with the Gods of War. The NASA spokesman had this to say about the status of their Mars project; I found it a telling comment, “It will take some time before we have full functionality with Spirit”.
This has been the news of the day, for January 29, 2004. Peace,
