CHICAGO (Reuters) - The keepers of the "Doomsday Clock" on Wednesday advanced its hands nearer to the midnight hour that symbolizes nuclear weapons conflict, its closest since the Cold War's end. This was the report.

Comments -
I enjoyed the 90s because it was the first time in my adult life (52) that I did not have to fear the bomb being dropped on my head. Now there is Bush and Kirkpatrick and Wolfowitz touting that a limited nuclear war is winnable. Yeah right, if you are sitting in one of those 75 underground presidential suites --- for three years!

In a documentary film produced by the MacArthur Foundation about the personnel and training involved in launching nuclear missiles the squadron commander from the 4315th Combat Training Group Squadron at Vandenburg Air Force Base, California, made the following statements:

As you go through our program, decide in your own mind that our way of life is such and that our command and control system is such that the President of the United States is not going to ask you to insert those launch keys until there's just no other option -- it's the FINAL SOLUTION. [Where have we heard that last phrase before?]

"Unconditional and highest freedom of will comes from obedience." --Heinrich Himmler, ReichsfÜhrer-SS
