America At WAR - the international community's opinion
by Michael Tivana

"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
- Charles Darwin

America has troops fighting in 4 countries, all since 911. Columbia, Philippines, Afghanistan, and now IRAQ. Bush has given the world notice that "If you aren't with us, you are with the terrorists." He has also stated that there is an Axis of Evil and we must destroy it to be free: Iraq, Iran, and No. Korea. He has since expanded the short list to seven and the long list to 60 countries that are likely hotbeds for terrorism. Then he has said that the war on terror will not be over for some time. IS the plan to attack 60 countries? Is he the greates conqueror since Alexander the Great? If the majority of AMericans don't think that this is the plan what does the rest of the world think?

If indeed this is the plan, then what is to stop Bush from conquering the world? The anti-war protests? The European union? The UN? All appear to be on the loosing side -- at this time. Then one has to remember that these are extraordinary times, times when things happen quickly, times when the sway of the direction of whole nations and history itself can shift in a moment.

We must remember that shift happens
and put our faith in the destiny of the world, and that is the people will have enought to eat, they will be free of oppression, they will have shelter, clothing and a family, even it is among strangers. The revolution of the heart is here and it has claimed victory in So. Africa (the end of apartheid), the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the reign of terror of many dictators through bloodless coups (Suakarno, Marcos, Fujimori and many more). These are extraordinary times and the greater the challenge, the sweeter the victory!

But what matters now in world history is the world's opinion of America at WAR. Here are some excerpts from some world leaders on America at War.

The Moroccan national committee branded the US-led war against Iraq "a serious precedent in international relations and a blatant despise of the international community." The committee said in a statement, the attack, conducted in total violation of the UN charter, is a threat to the world security, peace and stability.

"In what state will this dangerous precedent leave the world? What role will international law still have in the community of nations? And what weight will a discredited and ridiculed UN still have?" In an interview with the Cairo Arabic Daily Al-Ahram, published on Friday, US Vice President Dick Cheney said he does not agree with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's statement in which he said that a war without a UN Security Council resolution violates the UN Charter.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that the Iraqi issue constitutes a source of instability in other parts of the world and the military operation against Iraq implies unpredicted consequences. "We believe the use of force against Iraq, especially with reference to previous resolutions of the U.N. Security Council, has no grounds, including legal grounds," Ivanov told reporters.

Washington Post: Pope says no legal or moral ground for war on Iraq
"When war, as in these days in Iraq, threatens the fate of humanity, it is ever more urgent to proclaim, with a strong and decisive voice, that only peace is the road to follow to construct a more just and united society," John Paul said. "Violence and arms can never resolve the problems of men."

US against worldwide diplomatic drive for emergency session of the UN General Assembly The US has launched a worldwide diplomatic drive to head off an emergency session of the UN General Assembly to condemn the US-led war on Iraq, diplomats said yesterday.

The French President Jacque Chirac yesterday in Brussels SAID that the US and Britain have violated international law by declaring war against Iraq without the consent of the United Nations. Chirac said that the UN is the only forum to rebuild Iraq after the war.

Leaders of the European Union said that "we are facing a new situation with the beginning of the war against Iraq and we are committed to the need of preserving Iraq's unity and political stability and honoring the rights of the Palestinian people."

In a statement they issued yesterday, the European leaders stressed the need for the UN to continue to play the main role during and after the war against Iraq, stressing the drastic need to meet the main humanitarian aid of the Iraqi people resulting from this war.

On day 3 of the war Bush has brushed off protests to his expansion of the war on terror by saying he thought that the protestors time would be better spent doing community service, like pulling weeds or picking up litter.
