To the Looters/ I mean
To the Victors Go the Spoils

Democracy in the world is being tested in Iraq. Will the United States ultimately be seen as conquerors of liberators? The people of Iraq are demonstrating their eagerness to have their own governance and the window of freedom is letting the light in. If only for a brief moment the future looks bright for a free Iraq. Meanwhile all this freedom and celebrating and talk about Shiites in power is being seen by the Bush administration as coming from Iranian outside agitation and this is a flagrant foul in their eyes. Is this more saber rattling or a reason to take up more arms?

Right after Baghdad was conquered, I mean liberated there was mayhem. I was disturbed by a report from the streets of Baghdad where a dozen testimonies of people told the same story about US soldiers aiding some looters rob some banks. If true this would show collusion in the raping of the resources of Iraq and would demonstrate that we are behaving like conquerors not liberators. The hardest to take story was the looting of the national museum. Here we see that the crimes were organized as keys were made available for someone with equipment to enter into the vaults in the basement where the real treasures were. These large pieces required heavy machinery to come in to move them and the fact that it happened overnight indicates that it was planned before execution.

Then came the unforgivable as the records were destroyed. The information has no real value without the physical piece and the same is true for many of the missing pieces. Without the history there is little value. This points to malicious looting for the pure point of severing humnaity's ties with our past. This follows the patern of the Taliban defacing Buddhist religious and the Bush administration then granting the Taliban with the largest funding they had ever received - $45million of US taxpayer money. This trend of looting and pillaging (destroying) our human heritage must not be allowed to continue, humanity is losing its connecton to its past. Why is this important? Because in our history lies the knowledge of our humanity. Without this we are reliant upon the media, our leaders and rulers to tell us who we are, what our values are and who we are as human beings. This is a dangerous time for humanity as we struggle with finding our idnetity as human beings. Will we destroy ourselves before we find the answer to war?

With each passing day the long suppressed Muslims are growing stronger as more Shiite leaders are claiming governance over sections of Southern Iraq. Mayors, governors and other posts are being claimed much to the chagrin of the administration. Time will tell if Bush can tolerate democracy or not. But this is a footnote to the fact that the oil is now flowing OUT of IRAQ long before the water is flowing to tens of millions. One must ask, if we are liberating the Iraqis why did we destroy their water treatment and electric power plants?

The US is fighting back by arresting a makeshift government by the people in Baghdad and shooting demonstrators in Mosul. The rapid formation of a US picked ad hoc government is underway. Chalabi is a leading organizer but claims to not want power. His 10,000 man private army FIF (Free Iraq Force) would make this claim ridiculous. He is wanted in Jordan for embezzling tens of millions from a bank scam a few years back. This point must have been underlined a good thing when Rumsfeld read his resume.

Then there is retired general Mr. Garner, good friend and confidant to General Sharon of Israel. Garner is the man, he is in charge and getting lights turned on while building a new government, our way. The oil is flowing the press is happy, flowers, kisses and celebration. Until we see all across the country there are protests against him and his new government. Good luck Garner, here is some advice, don't invite Sharon over to dinner anytime soon.

Everyone is on a slippery slope in Iraq and we shall see which side has its way and ends up on top of this historical turning point for our world; the Bush adminsitration or the people of the world. The whole world is watching to see if the road map to peace will get traction in Palestine and if Syria's pleas to disarm the entire region of weapons of mass distraction. This is the moment of truth. Is humanity ready to mature to such a level as to make war obsolete? Or do we need another horrible war to teach us the lesson that war is not the answer. Humanity can still avoid going down the slippery slope of war and can now begin to laugh at the war mongers and begin to revel in the glory days of infinite peace and harmony.

Lets us pray for peace!
