Scalia Defends Capital Punishment
by Michael Tivana June 26, 2005
The US is becoming a culture infatuated with DEATH.
Dear Friends,
Today is one of those days when something major happens and it goes by unnoticed. Well I noticed that the US Supreme Court handed down a ruling on capital punishment and Scalia had this to say ---
"The American people have determined that the good to be derived from capital punishment - in deterrence, and perhaps most of all in the meting out of condign justice for horrible crimes - outweighs the risk of error. It is no proper part of the business of this court, or of its justices, to second-guess that judgment, much less to impugn it before the world."

What American people? Was it you or me? The thought of meting out condign (deserved) justice is OK even if it is in error leads our society down an inhuman path. We are turning into some kind of twisted beings where it is appropriate to bomb the village to save it even if innocent civilians die (collateral damage), kill the body to save it even if people die (chemotherapy), or the big one - irradiated, canned, chemical laden, and processed food kills people but it feeds so many.
We live in a culture that is infatuated with death. It is rulings like this, speaking for the American people, that makes us a culture of death. We are asked to accept this twisted "death is excusable" mentality where we must die to live every day of our precious lives. I say Phooey.
Live on,
Choose life,
Tivana
