The True Human Being
by Michael Tivana

In the world of the one great spirit there is no such thing as a single human being for here all humans are all one; we are all enjoined in our spirit being human. In the world we call Earth the human spirit becomes the many minds of the I AM self. The individualized self then strives for identity on several levels: individual, family, community, national, planetary. These points of identity represent the level of purpose that guides the actions of the individual. All levels are necessary for the health of the individual. Thereby the broader a person's world view, the higher one's purpose and the truer the humanness of the spirit being human. The lower the level of purpose the more the world tends to suck. Thus the phrase "Up Your Purpose" becomes a rally cry as our lives constantly measure our personal creation of heaven or hell on Earth.

The struggle for a higher level of purpose exists in the constant struggle between good and evil within the human mind and within the human society. The quest for good empowers the spirit while the agenda for evil drains the life force out of the spirit. Individuals in spirit are like drops of water in the ocean. All separate parts of the one great whole. Thereby the spirit of the whole ocean is contained in each drop of water and the realization that we as individuals are all a part of the whole called life, places one squarely on the side of good. This surrender to the Gaia Principle (globally conscious) allows the individual to feel what the world feels, and becomes a very empowering and motivating force in a person's life. On the other hand, to relinquish one's thoughts, power, salvation and redemption to an idol, person or idealogy that is outside of one's self results in separating the individual from the rest of life and leaves the soul empty and the mind vulnerable to evil.

We are living in historic times, times that try one's soul. The great gamble to living in such a time is that the forces of good and evil are strong and they are potent. One's spirit can increase or decrease greatly in the turbulent seas of the battles between good and evil. These modern times test the choices that we make. Our choices will determine growth of both the individual and collective spirit or not.

Modern politics in America and the world is alive with the pitched battles of good versus evil. We are asked daily to pass judgement on forces that we support or do not support. I caution to be aware of the urge to be swept away by popular emotion and to be aware of media propaganda. Remeber that YOU are in charge of who YOU are and open-minded, independent thinking is the beginning of being a true human being. The other choices are how we live our daily lives.

Mohandas Ghandi said upon being asked what his religion was, "The way I live my life, the things I do every day, this is my religion."   May we all practice good religion and support one another in exercising virtue while being human. This is what adds to the soul. The practice of vices while being human is what subtracts from the soul. While being human on physical Earth individual souls run the risk of strenghtening or weakening who they are. Daily events in our lives present us with choices that evoke a virtue or a vice. The true human being looks for opportunities to be virtuous.

To practice the 7 Great Virtues is very powerful and enobling.
The seven GREAT VIRTUES are:
Love, Peace, Joy, Beauty, Truth, Charity, and Grace

It has been said that the greatest of these is Charity. It is an axiom of all sages that the greatest test in accomplishing true elevation of the spirit is in practicing the deed of putting other's needs before one's own. This is the key to elevating ones sense of purpose in the world and is seen in many great souls such as Ghandi, Mother Theresa, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

By enacting the 7 Great Virtues in our lives, our spirit rises and eases the way for what Maslow called self-actualization. I think of it as "Welcome Home Time" for the soul. A time of feeling natural when all is effortless and right with the world. Life's other virtues are subsets of these such as Harmony is a part of Peace and so forth and the point being is that a virtuous life raises our sense of purpose while promoting the True Human Being.

The Hopi (Peace) people are living examples of the true human being. In fact they have been told by their ancestors and elders that they must remain true human beings to be examples of maturity for the "Bahannas" or two hearts. The people of PEACE are living the life of the one heart true human being as are many native peoples around the world. Their traditions and cultural practices promise to guide human kind back to a point of stability that will save some of humanity from spinning out of control and into chaos. The last century has been the greatest test of the true human beings. Can their culture survive and be passed on to the two hearted in exchange for technology?

The science of technology is very heady stuff. Technocratic society tends to shift thinking away from the heart and into the mind. IN this society thought becomes less clear and more guided from events and opinions outside of one's self and less from the heart and the connection to life's spirit. In the end, the technocrats need the solace of the one hearted true human beings and the true humans need technology to show the way to stability.

The native peoples have been under attack the last several centuries from the technocratic society. The opportunity in these battles technology is the mingling of the one-hearted and two-hearted peoples. Thoughts and ideas are being exchanged. But this exchange does not have to be made a war; it does not have to be made with Evil battling Good. This exchange can have far more finesse than this. Humans can make this exchange what they want. The Peace Corps or World WarIII the choice is ours.

Yes, there is a merging of cultures and energies occuring on an unprecedented scale in today's world. This merger is necessary as we must learn from the one hearts in Afghanistan, and as we must learn from the Hopis, the ways of the one hearts. Because if we fail: the maturity, the social awareness, and the human growth required to deal with weapons of mass destruction will not be there. In the end the final question becomes, "Who will win the battle for the human soul, people or technology?"
