The
Struggle for Life on Earth to Flourish
From
a long-range viewpoint, the anti-Viet Nam war protest was the spark that
congealed a rebellion that has spread far beyond the issue of war in Viet Nam.
Viet Name was the catalyst, the focal point where all calls for justice and
liberty could come together. Power to the people was the battle cry and was
shouted by women, minorities, peace lovers, and environmentalists. Now in 2001
the movement for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness has spread to unionists,
trade organizations, politicians, and beyond. Where does the movement go from
here?
The
anti-globalization movement is now the new ant-war protest. To be anti-global
is to be anti-New World Order. Not only is it uniting people of all dissent
against the NWO it is uniting people beyond political borders; it is uniting
people around the world. This international movement against the unconscious
corporate rulers of our world will hopefully be the last fight the people will
have against their governors. To assure that the fight is won for the people
and not for profit's bottom line, the people must be infused with more than
hope, trust, and faith, they need education, fortitude, and courage. They must
know what they are fighting for. "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness".
The
words of Daniel Berrigan, a Jesuit Priest, said this about the anti-Viet Nam
movement;
"We
say killing is disorder, life and gentleness and community and unselfishness is
the only order we recognize. For the sake of that order, we risk our liberty,
our good name. The time is past when good men can remain silent, when obedience
can segregate men from public risk, when the poor can die without
defense."
These
words ring even truer today and are even more potent as the world grows closer
day by day. Those that know what is going on, those that have the ability to do
something about it have a moral obligation to act. To know and to do nothing is
as great a crime than to be ignorant of the actions of your country
that continues to spread evil across the planet.
This is a call to action among the citizens of this planet. A call to protest the destruction of our liberties, our livelihoods, and our enviroment. The movement of the people that has always existed, did not get this far without a struggle and many victories. We have inherited much from the heros of the past, we honor their pain and suffering by continuing to advance the human condition with better working conditions, more freedom with fair minded courts, an honest economic system powered by sustainable fuels not fossil fuels, an environment that supports all life not just human consumption. This we want for all people and all life on the planet.
Om we takwae ahse, to all my relations - walk in beauty.
